👟 Choosing Soccer Cleats? Why Soccer Cleat Weight for Kids Matters More Than You Think

If you're a soccer parent, you probably know the drill — head to the store, check the price, let your kid pick their favorite color, and you’re out the door.

Maybe you ask if they’re for turf, grass, or indoor. And for most people, that’s where the decision ends.

But here’s something most parents don’t really think about — the weight of the cleats.

👣 So, how much do they weigh?

Turns out, it can vary a lot. Some cleats weigh around 150 - 170 grams, while others go up to 300 grams — per shoe.

That might not sound like a big deal, but when your kid is running, cutting, and kicking for 40 - 90 minutes, those extra grams add up.

🧤 Heavier cleats (closer to 300g) offer more structure, durability, and protection — great for kids who play aggressively or just like that solid, "locked-in" feeling.

💨 Lighter cleats (around 150–170g) are usually made with thinner synthetic materials. They’re more flexible and feel faster — almost like playing in socks. But they don’t offer as much support.

📏 And here’s something else: size changes everything.

The same model in two different sizes can feel completely different. Going up 4 or 5 sizes can add 10 to 30 grams per shoe. That’s up to 60 grams more overall — and for younger kids, that can make a big difference.

🌱 Especially for younger players still developing their balance and control, the right weight can really affect how they move and feel on the field. Too heavy, and they might struggle with agility. Too light, and they may not feel stable.

🎯 In the end, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Some kids like the feel of a more protective shoe. Others just want to feel light and fast.

It’s all about what works for your child — their age, build, playing style, and confidence.

👀 So next time you’re picking out cleats, don’t just go by looks or price.

Ask:

What surface are they for?

How do they feel in your kid’s size?

And does your child actually feel good moving in them?

So before your next cleat purchase, take a moment to consider more than just fit and style. Pay attention to soccer cleat weight for kids — it can influence how your child plays, feels, and builds confidence. The right cleats aren’t just about looks — they’re about giving your young player the best chance to grow in the game.
