Are Extra Workouts Good for Kids in Soccer? Here’s What Parents Should Know🏃‍♂️⚽

A question we hear a lot from soccer parents:

“Should my kid be doing extra workouts outside of soccer practice?”

The honest answer? Absolutely – yes! 🙌

A lot of parents are getting their kids into additional training – like track or running drills – to help improve speed, stamina, and overall movement. And when done right, this can make a big difference.

These sessions build the athletic base that every young soccer player needs.

But there’s one key thing to remember 🛑 – the coach matters. A lot.

These workouts should be led by someone who knows how to train kids the right way, with age-appropriate exercises and realistic expectations.

🎯 So, when should kids start?

It really depends.

Some are ready by age 8 – focused, emotionally steady, and motivated. Others may not be quite there until 10 or older.

There’s no magic number. As a parent, you know your child best – follow their lead.

🧘‍♂️ And above all – keep an eye on balance.

Pushing too hard too soon can backfire. More isn’t always better.

❤️ The best sign things are going well?

Your kid comes home with a smile and can’t stop talking about what they did. That’s gold. 😊

👉 Sports should build kids up, not wear them out.

👉 Extra training should feel like fun, not pressure.

👉 And never forget – rest and recovery matter just as much as training.

So, are extra workouts good for kids in soccer? Yes — when guided by a qualified coach, tailored to your child’s age, and rooted in joy rather than pressure. The goal isn’t just better fitness — it’s a better experience. Because in youth sports, confidence and love for the game are the real wins.
